Brewed and Bottled, Sgt. Peppers headed to new Bax property

Two Lewiston businesses originally slated to become part of the renovated Fourth and Center streets complex are moving. The owners of Brewed and Bottled Craft Beer Shop and Sgt. Peppers Hot Sauces said the corner's concept just wasn't the right fit for them. As such, they're headed to 442-444 Center, a property developed by attorney and Town of Lewiston Councilman Alfonso Marra Bax.

The concept was simple. Find a rock, decorate it, then hide it again. Soon, someone else will find it and take a picture, then hide it, too. A fun game in cities across the U.S. hit WNY in 2017 when Kimberly LaRussa, a local blogger of a website called Sweet Buffalo, was introduced to it by a friend in Florida. She said it seemed like a fun activity for the long winter, but couldn't have imagined what it would become.

Animal welfare advocates from the Voices for Shelter Animals group spoke out recently in regard to an investigation conducted at the Niagara SPCA by former Erie County SPCA Executive Director Barbara Carr, and Libby Post, executive director of New York State Animal Protection Federation. They called it a conflict of interest.

On a cold, rainy and snowy Dec. 14, the Kiwanis Club of Niagara-Wheatfield assisted the Salvation Army's bell-ringing campaign. Members greeted customers at the Sanborn Tops Market as they entered the market and wished them a merry Christmas as they left, offering candies and candy canes for those who wished. It was a busy five hours of receiving donations. The Kiwanians also aided the Tops employees by retrieving baskets from the wet, slushy parking area.

Eric Salisbury was appointed dog control officer in 2018 for the City of North Tonawanda. Since then, he's become something of a legend for the dog- and cat-loving community in the municipality. Recently, after several residents commended his service, the NT City Council awarded him a pay increase.

At a recent Town Board meeting in Wheatfield, Sara Taylor, a BTOP e-mobile trainer, spoke to Supervisor Don MacSwan and councilmen regarding bringing the program to the residents, despite the town's lack of a library.

For family fun with the kids this winter, there's a place at 2660 Saunders Settlement Road called the Sanborn Farm Museum. It's becoming the site of "Christmas at the Farm" for two days in the middle of the holiday season: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 14 and 15.
