FeedMore WNY is able to provide more nutritious food to its Western New York neighbors in need thanks to support from area retailers and the community. "Check Out Hunger" campaigns at Dash's Market, Lexington Cooperative Markets, The Market in the Square, Tops Friendly Markets and Wegmans Food Markets raised a total of $780,323 to help FeedMore WNY continue to respond to the ongoing need for food assistance in the community as a result of the pandemic.

After being closed to the public for more than a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University will reopen to the public Saturday, June 12. Patrons may visit the museum on weekends - from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 1-5 p.m. Sundays.

13 Players and the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center announced theater will be back on stage this summer. 13 Players Theatre School is hosting a summer camp for ages 8-18 running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, June 28, to Thursday, July 1. Camp will culminate with a performance July 1.

Widespread vaccine distribution in the United States has been among the country's most successful public health programs, according to David Herzberg, a professor of history in the University at Buffalo College of Arts and Sciences. And though these programs have nearly wiped out many viruses responsible for causing virulent diseases, Herzberg says vaccine concerns and hesitancy, especially as they relate to COVID-19, are not new. They have been around as long as there have been vaccines.

The state Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) and state Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) announced a pair of online resources aimed at facilitating human trafficking referrals to New York state. These resources include a new digital handbook to assist service providers and victim advocates with making human trafficking referrals, and an e-reporting system that allows them and law enforcement to submit these referrals electronically.

The Niagara Wine Trail members announced the return of a wine and cheese event. Wineries will feature a different cheese paired with a special wine from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, June 5, and noon until 5 p.m. Sunday, June 6. New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced the fishing season for muskellunge, also known as "muskie" or "musky," starts in most state waters later this week. The season for New York's largest freshwater sportfish begins Saturday in inland waters and on Saturday, June 19, in Great Lakes waters, which include Lake Erie, upper Niagara River, lower Niagara River, Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River.

Erie County and the Erie County Department of Health announced Dunkin' will provide 2,000 gift cards (valued at $5 each) for distribution at county-run COVID-19 vaccine clinics starting Tuesday, May 25. This upcoming week, a group of volunteer bicyclists from across New York will set off on a 350-mile, cross-state journey to raise awareness and support for the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and National Missing Children's Day, on May 25. The four-day ride will also serve as a pre-event to NCMEC's "Miles for Hope," a monthlong awareness and fundraising mission to benefit NCMEC taking place later this fall.
