The Buffalo Beauts fell to the Metropolitan Riveters 4-3 in a shootout in New Jersey on Sunday in their final game of the regular season. The loss snapped the Beauts' seven-game win streak, but Buffalo locked up the No. 2 seed for the Isobel Cup Playoffs with its win on Saturday. The team will host the No. 3 seed Boston Pride at Harborcenter for the first round of the playoffs.

Rock icon Alice Cooper and Grammy-winning hard rock band Halestorm have announced a co-headline amphitheater tour across North America this summer. Produced by Live Nation, the 19-city tour will kick off July 17 in Allentown, Pennsylvania, at the PPL Center and make stops in Detroit, Chicago and Houston, before wrapping Aug. 16 in Camden, New Jersey, at the BB&T Pavilion.

The 50th annual Olcott Polar Bear "Swim For Sight" was held Sunday afternoon on the Lake Ontario shores at Olcott Beach. Roughly 400 swimmers participated, while all types of food and vendors could be found on the hamlet's Main Street for a huge crowd of onlookers.

The New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) announced the award of more than $5.1 million in funding to establish 14 new recovery community centers across New York, and expand services at two existing recovery centers. Everything was looking grand for the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons boys basketball team.
Last Saturday, the team upset rival North Tonawanda, clinching a berth to play in the semifinals at Buffalo State for the first time in 14 years.
The team rode an emotional high heading into the Section VI Class A1 semifinal matchup versus Williamsville East Thursday night, but the Flames knocked the Falcons back down to earth, as N-W was defeated, 66-43.

The Old Fort Niagara Association will host a Native American history symposium on Saturday, March 30, titled "Fort Niagara through Native Eyes" at the Tuscarora Nation House in Lewiston. Three Native American history and culture experts will present Native American history from specific time periods at Fort Niagara. Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz on Thursday joined Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens Society President and CEO David Swarts to announce a county funding commitment of $2.5 million to support the Botanical Gardens' proposed expansion. Preparations are underway for the 2019 Northwest Jazz Festival, which will take place Aug. 23-24 in the Village of Lewiston. It was announced Thursday The board of directors and Jazz Festival staff will hold a fundraiser, "A Taste of Jazz," from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, March 31, at the Brickyard Brewing Co., 436 Center St. The event will help offset some of the costs of producing the free, two-day outdoor music festival.

On Sunday and parts of Monday, Western New York got hit with yet another storm this winter. No snow or ice to mention, but winds blew through the area at steady speeds in the 40 mile-per-hour range, with gusts up above 70 mph.
The Tribune's local municipalities - the Town of Wheatfield, Town of Niagara and City of North Tonawanda - all endured the wind's wrath and had to deal with some damage.
