This past weekend, five Niagara-Wheatfield wrestlers competed at the 57th annual New York State Public High School Athletic Association Intersectional Wrestling Champions in Albany.

Wrestlers included Warren and Justin McDougald, Josh Thibeault, Jake DeWolf and Collin Coughenour.

The two-day tournament brought some of the best wrestlers from around the state to compete for individual state titles. It was also the second-straight year N-W has sent the quintet to states.

On the first day, Coughenour, an eighth-grader, and DeWolf, a senior, were eliminated.

The senior Thibeault came back to wrestle Friday night, but was eventually eliminated.

The McDougald’s both wrestled in the semifinals. Justin finished fifth and Warren, a senior, finished second – his highest finish at states.

Overall, Section V ended up on top as whole at the state tournament with 236 points. Section VI finished sixth with 106 points.
