Gov. Kathy Hochul encouraged New Yorkers to take advantage of the year's fifth "Free Fishing Day," on Saturday, Sept. 23, when New York state waives the requirement for a freshwater fishing license. Her team said, "Fishing is considered one of the most therapeutic outdoor activities, making it an ideal activity for all New Yorkers looking to get outside and enjoy the outdoors."

Mat Williamson from St. Catharine's, Ontario, won his third consecutive track championship in the Krown Undercoating Modifieds last Friday. Derek Wagner, from Middleport, earned his second-straight Hy-Tech Concrete DIRTcar Sportsman track championship. Ken Camidge, from Niagara Falls, won his first KiPo Motors Street Stock championship.

Three track champions will be crowned this coming Friday night as it is the final points night for the Krown Undercoating Modifieds, Hy-Tech Concrete DIRTcar Sportsman, and the KiPo Motors Street Stocks.

One of the most anticipated races of the season is this coming Tuesday at the Ransomville Speedway as the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series will be in competition for the Ron Martin Memorial Summer Nationals, and the Sportsman Super DIRTcar Series will be in action for the third annual Mike Bonesky Memorial. Both races are in honor and memory of two individuals who dedicated their lives to racing and the Ransomville Speedway.

Ransomville Speedway will see the anticipated return of the Southern Ontario Sprints this coming Friday night, with support from Beyer Trucking, Parco Builders and Clark Rigging. The racing program features the Krown Undercoating Modifieds, KiPo Motors Street Stocks, Sunflowers of Sanborn Mini Stocks, and the Kevin's Carpet Cleaning Novice Sportsman.

This coming Friday night, Ransomville Speedway will be honoring and remembering John Susice with the John Susice Memorial for the KiPo Motors Street Stocks. A full Ransomville racing program will also be presented, as well as the "Little R" go-kart exhibition. Modern Disposal and Shelby Crushed Stone will present the racing action.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced she signed legislation to address the minimum age of lifeguards at children's camps. Legislation (S.6467-A/A.5821A) will require lifeguards for children's camps to be at least 17 years of age except that up to 50% of the required number of lifeguards on duty may be at least 15 years of age if they are under the supervision of a camp aquatics director. Lifeguards required for wilderness swimming must be at least 18 years of age.

The New York State Parks Marine Services Bureau is proud to coordinate New York's annual participation in the national Operation Dry Water campaign. This campaign involves law enforcement agencies statewide to educate boaters about the dangers of boating while under the influence of alcohol, marijuana and other drugs, and removing impaired boaters from the waterways. This year, Operation Dry Water's national weekend of amplified outreach and coordinated enforcement is July 1-3.

Ransomville Speedway will honor the memory of the oldest feature winner in speedway history on Friday, June 2, with the Dick Wilkinson Memorial for the Sunflowers of Sanborn Mini Stocks. Mark Cerrone Inc. will present the racing program that also features kids rides.
