Village of Lewiston gets its Just Desserts

In what could only be described as a sight straight out of a Food Network kitchen, The Stone House was filled with delicious desserts of every shape, size, texture and taste on Thursday night. The occasion was a ribbon-cutting for Just Desserts by Aimee - which is kitty-corner to the Lewiston wine bar. Friends and family looked on with awe at the picturesque pastries, precisely piled on serving plates.

The Wheatfield Lions Club invited their counterparts, the St. David Lions Club from Canada; as well as area service and business groups to a steak dinner at Five Senses Nature Park for their fifth annual Service Club Steak Night. Clubs included the Niagara-Wheatfield Kiwanis, Wheatfield Business Association, Town of Niagara Lions, and the Niagara County Central Rotary Club.

It started nine years ago when Jesse Gooch, owner of Painters Plus and a Niagara County legislator, decided to use his business to do some good for the community. Gooch noticed there were several houses in the community that needed an exterior paint job. Painters Plus handled jobs on similar houses and it was like a lightbulb went on. Gooch's business had all the supplies and the know-how to paint any of these houses.

Some people smirk when Northwest Jazz Festival in Historic Lewiston organizers state the event annually draws upward of 40,000 people. Those doubters were converted this past weekend, as people were elbow-to-elbow across Center Street, and cars were stacked all the way back to Oxbow Lane at the Lewiston event.

Carl Dixon, born and raised in Canada answered an ad for a band called Coney Hatch in 1979. He went on to tour around the world, rocked long hair and a killer voice, wrote hits like "Devil's Deck," "Hey Operator" and became the lead singer for the rock legend The Guess Who in 1997.
Bri Estates: Citizens speak on impact to environment

The Town of Niagara Town Board listened to the objections of several residents from the towns of Niagara and Lewiston on the subject of Bri Estates, a proposed development north of Colonial Drive in the Town of Niagara, at a scoping meeting held during the board's regular monthly meeting on Tuesday.

Jazz Festival has 'most ambitious' slate of musicians

The Northwest Jazz Festival in Historic Lewiston, NY will present some of the top Western New York musicians, as well as a sampling of the country's best-in-genre artists. The adult-centric event is set for Friday, Aug. 23, and Saturday, Aug. 24, on Center Street.

For Lewiston concertgoers, Tuesday night was, well, a "Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy," as Bad Company with Paul Rodgers headlined a concert at Artpark. The show was one of only two-dozen live dates for the band in 2019.

Two summers ago, the French street theater group Plasticiens Volants wowed people when it debuted "Big Bang" Lewiston. The troupe told a story of creation through a dazzling mix of floating inflatables, videos, lights and music. Its colorful creations filled the night sky, and were manned by performers weaving in and out of the crowd.
