With a finish time of one hour and 14 minutes, Allie Kieffer of Williamsville is not only mighty, she became the first ever female overall winner of The Mighty Niagara Half Marathon on Saturday, Sept. 16. The half-marathon, held in conjunction with the Hospice Dash 5K, brought in runners from around the country and the world with athletes coming from as far away as Mexico and Australia.

New York State Sen. Chris Jacobs announced he has secured $120,000 in state funding for the 12 branch libraries in the 60th Senate District. For homecoming weekend, on Oct. 13 at Terry Harvey Field, the Falcons will host their first-ever Friday night football game under the lights.

Data from the STOP-DWI office indicates DWI arrests for the period of July 3 through Sept. 17 are down from last year.

The Firemen's Association of the State of New York announced it has been awarded a $1.5 million federal grant to recruit new volunteer firefighters. The four-year Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant is awarded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The funding will be used to create statewide outreach campaigns, awareness programs and recruitment and retention activities.

At the end of the 2016 tennis season, the Niagara-Wheatfield girls tennis team found themselves in second place, finishing 12-2 and one match behind Niagara Frontier League champion, Lockport. This season, the Falcons have used that finish as fuel to their fire.
The Falcons have been nothing short of dominant in their first eight matches of the year, as they are 8-0 and 40-0 in sets.
