The Lewiston Community Lions kicked off its 2017-18 new membership season by presenting the Tuscarora Indian School with a donation of backpacks and school supplies for students.
Principal Elizabeth Corieri spoke about the school and all its accomplishments, including how students can earn Regents and college credits for learning the Tuscarora language.
The Tuscarora School now has educational partnerships with Niagara County Community College and Niagara University.
Corieri was accompanied by two Tuscarora students, Ellenora Spina and Haley Hill, who shared their experience attending Tuscarora School. Their presentation was highlighted by their successful efforts to observe what is now referred to as Indigenous Peoples Day (aka Columbus Day).
