State Parks announces Grand Island waterfowl blind drawings

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation has announced lottery drawings for waterfowl hunting season have been scheduled at Beaver Island State Park, West River Parkway, Strawberry Island and Motor Island.
Duck season will run from Oct. 28 through Dec. 6, and the goose season will run from Oct. 28 through Dec. 17. Permit draws will be held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday beginning Oct. 27. Doors will open at 6 p.m., and the draws start at 6:30 p.m. in the Beaver Island Club House. The draws will continue to take place in the basement of the Beaver Island clubhouse through Monday, Dec. 4. Enter in the back door closest to parking lot next to the clubhouse. 
Canada Goose season for Dec. 7-17 will be call-ins only on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Call-ins start Wednesday, Dec. 6, by calling 716-773-2010 (from 9 a.m. to noon).
To participate in the lottery drawings, hunters must be present and show a valid New York state small game hunting license with a signed duck stamp, proof of completion of a waterfowl ID course, and proof of registration in the harvest information program (HIP).
Additionally, Beaver Island will participate in Waterfowl Youth Days Oct. 14-15. The drawing will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, in the basement of the Beaver Island Clubhouse. See www.dec.ny.gov for more information about the youth hunt.
State Parks will include three ADA blinds, which are handicap accessible. Blind No. 31 is located within Beaver Island State Park, and blinds Nos. 41-42 are located on East River Road at Spicer Creek Wildlife Management Area (north of the cemetery).
Waterfowl hunting is restricted to the wooden universal blind structure only.
