Catholic Health broke ground Tuesday on the new Lockport Memorial Hospital, which will become an eastern campus of Mount St. Mary's Hospital. Located off South Transit Road, between Shimer and Ruhlmann roads, the new hospital will be built on a large portion of Hall's Apple Farm, an area landmark that will maintain its longstanding market.

Gov. Kathy Hochul signed legislation (S.05675/A.4522) into law to protect New Yorkers from lead exposure from Christmas lights and other holiday decorations by requiring a warning label for certain products that use lead-based electrical cord casings. The legislation defines seasonal and decorative lighting products, requires a proper warning label, and mandates a fine for any manufacturer who violates this legislation.

The Erie County Division of Budget and Management announced Kroll Bond Rating Agency (KBRA) has reaffirmed its long-term rating of AA- and a "stable" outlook for Erie County bonds. A press release from Executive Mark Poloncarz said this is "another affirmative sign from an independent financial entity that the county's fiscal profile is strong and stable in 2021."

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Buffalo's Broadway-Fillmore neighborhood and the City of North Tonawanda will receive $10 million each in funding as the Western New York region winners of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative. As part of DRI round 5, each of the state's 10 regional economic development regions are being awarded $20 million, to make for a total state commitment of $200 million in funding and investments to help communities boost their post COVID-19 economies by transforming downtowns into vibrant neighborhoods.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced changes aimed at encouraging more food-insecure older adults and disabled individuals to enroll in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. The changes include simplifying the SNAP application, extending the duration these households can receive benefits before needing to recertify, and eliminating the need for them to complete an interview during the recertification process.
