Public forum on scams targeting older adults

In observance of National Elder Abuse Awareness Month, Niagara County's Office for the Aging and Council on Elder Abuse will hold a public forum on the current scams targeting older adults in the community. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, June 28, at Lockport Town Hall, 6560 Dysinger Road.
'The Erie Canal Sings' book-signing to be held at ECDC on June 22

Author Dr. William Hullfish will hold a book-signing event at the Erie Canal Discovery Center, 24 Church St., Lockport, at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 22. His book, "The Erie Canal Sings: A Musical History of New York's Grand Waterway," tells the history of canal music and its transformation across U.S. canalways. The book will be released June 17 at a cost of $21.99. Copies will be available for purchase during the signing.

USA Niagara breaks ground on Cataract Commons Project in Niagara Falls

USA Niagara Development Corp. on Friday celebrated the groundbreaking for Cataract Commons, a public square or "commons" space located on Old Falls Street in downtown Niagara Falls. The project is designed to transform an empty parcel into a more usable and inviting outdoor facility that will have permanent structural seating and shade, as well as flexibility for hosting various events.

Norine Hibschweiler Eaton, who is being honored as a survivor in Grand Island's third annual Zumbathon, to be held from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at the Radisson Niagara, has had a life full of love and loss, illness, and adventure. In 1979, Norine Hibschweiler went on a "date derby" with a bunch of single friends. The date derby involved visiting bars in Buffalo and collecting souvenirs, such as matches and napkins. For her efforts, Hibschweiler won the distinction of having "the most promising future."
