Congressman Brian Higgins participated in a tribute to a married couple whose members both served in the U.S. Navy. Gwen Colon (pronounced: Cologne) was presented with military service medals she and her late-husband, Henry, earned during a combined 35 years of military service.

Norman J. Mrkall, lifelong resident of Grand Island, a retired highway superintendent and long time firefighter, died peacefully in his home on April 17. He was 81 years old.
