The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter No. 268, based in Lockport, delivered a check to the Niagara County Office for the Aging (OFA) to cover the cost of meals on Veterans Day for all the veterans enrolled in the county's home-delivered meals program. Higgins: $375,000 for Westminster Economic Development Initiative

Congressman Brian Higgins recently announced WEDI received two federal grants totaling $375,000. A grant for $250,000 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families, Office of Refugee Resettlement will continue support for refugee-owned microenterprises. Another $125,000 grant is allocated through the U.S. Department of Treasury's Community Development Financial Institutions (CFDI) fund.

Perry's Ice Cream: ESD announces support for ice cream manufacturer's expansion in Erie County

Earlier this week, Empire State Development announced Perry's Ice Cream Company Inc. is expanding its production capabilities to meet the growth of the novelty market, adding 20,000-square-feet to its manufacturing facility in the Village of Akron. To better accommodate the growing demand for frozen Greek yogurt novelties, Perry's will also purchase new machinery and equipment. The company has committed to creating up to 15 new jobs as part of the expansion project; 370 jobs will be retained.
NYS: Nearly $5 million awarded to support animal shelter improvements

Earlier this week, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced nearly $5 million has been awarded to 17 not-for-profit animal shelters and humane societies through the fourth round of the New York State Companion Animal Capital Fund. The funding will support construction, renovation and expansion projects that will provide animal care.

NT Common Council finalizes 2023 budget

The North Tonawanda Common Council voted at Tuesday's special session in favor of 13 amendments made to Mayor Austin Tylec's proposed 2023 general budget, cutting the proposed tax increase down to 5%. Among those amendments was the removal of the proposed $25,000 raise for the mayor and approximately $20,000 worth of raises for the council.
