Erie County District Attorney John Flynn announced he was recently the victim of a scammer who attempted to fraudulently file an unemployment claim using his personal information. Flynn became aware of the incident after receiving a notice in the mail regarding a claim for one week of unemployment in early February.

On Wednesday, at approximately 9:20 p.m., there was a shooting in front of the RayMart at 925 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls. A male victim suffered a single gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center Emergency Room before being transported to ECMC.

At Cuomo's direction, state agencies are monitoring areas that typically experience ice jam formations and response assets are ready and available to assist local governments in preventing and mitigating flooding and ice jam damage.

DiNapoli said "the State Department of Health has failed to hold accountable certain health care providers including hospitals, nursing homes and individual nurses, for patient safety violations and use its power under the law to impose stronger fines." Additionally, DOH does not ensure amounts collected are directed to increase patient safety, as required, according to an audit released Wednesday by DiNapoli.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is urging pet and aquarium stores and consumers to immediately remove and properly dispose of commercially purchased "moss balls" for aquariums after invasive zebra mussels were discovered inside and on some of these products, as reported by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Consumers should be advised that moss ball products purchased from PetSmart and Petco may be subject to a voluntary product recall.
