Old Editions Book Shop & Gallery, one of Western New York's largest and most renowned bookstores, is ready to begin a fresh, new chapter in its storied history. Last week, the store reopened its doors for the first time since closing in April due to the pandemic.
NT: City accountant refutes state audit findings

In response to a blistering audit from the New York State Comptroller's office, City of North Tonawanda Accountant Jeffrey Zellner addressed the council Tuesday night and refuted some of the audit's findings. He also referred to the audit as being "politically motivated" and criticized the auditors themselves as being "unprofessional."

The New York State Department of Labor announced it has prevented more than $1 billion from falling into fraudsters' hands during the coronavirus pandemic, identifying and stopping more than 42,200 fraudulent unemployment benefit claims since mid-March. In the past five months, DOL has referred more unemployment fraud cases to federal prosecutors than the department did in the past 10 years combined.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday announced a new social media campaign to raise awareness of human trafficking and "help dispel common misconceptions about the crime and its victims." Starting this month, the Interagency Task Force on Human Trafficking will begin sharing a series of graphics aimed at correcting these misconceptions along with information about how to report trafficking cases.

NYS: Nearly $1 million to expand mobile addiction treatment services

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced $972,717 awarded to five addiction treatment service providers across New York to enable them to purchase and operate mobile treatment vehicles. The goal of this initiative is to expand the availability and access to addiction treatment services in underserved regions of the state. Funding is being administered by the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports and was awarded through the federal State Opioid Response Grant.
