DEC announces opening of 2021 muskellunge fishing seasons

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced the fishing season for muskellunge, also known as "muskie" or "musky," starts in most state waters later this week. The season for New York's largest freshwater sportfish begins Saturday in inland waters and on Saturday, June 19, in Great Lakes waters, which include Lake Erie, upper Niagara River, lower Niagara River, Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River.
Town Board closes in on Solar Law amendments

The Town Board on Monday set in motion plans to finalize amendments to its 2017 solar law through a series of special workshop meetings scheduled for June. The goal is to hold a public hearing, then vote on the amended law at its regular July 19 Town Board meeting.
Free food drive-thru at Trinity Church

Niagara Falls: Short road closure scheduled for Welch Avenue beginning Wednesday, May 26

Beginning at 6 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, a portion of Welch Avenue in Niagara Falls will be closed. The closure will be from 24th Street through 2246 Welch Ave. It is due to repairs being made at the National Grid station located at this site.
Dunkin' provides gift cards to Erie County Department of Health COVID-19 vaccination program

Erie County and the Erie County Department of Health announced Dunkin' will provide 2,000 gift cards (valued at $5 each) for distribution at county-run COVID-19 vaccine clinics starting Tuesday, May 25. These cards will be given to youth ages 12 and older as they complete the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, with a second dose at ECDOH clinics.

This upcoming week, a group of volunteer bicyclists from across New York will set off on a 350-mile, cross-state journey to raise awareness and support for the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and National Missing Children's Day, on May 25. The four-day ride will also serve as a pre-event to NCMEC's "Miles for Hope," a monthlong awareness and fundraising mission to benefit NCMEC taking place later this fall.

On Monday, the Wheatfield Town Board honored members of the Niagara County Legislature for the services they have provided the county/town, particularly since the pandemic began. 2nd District Legislator Rebecca Wydysh, 10th District Legislator David Godfrey and 7th District Legislator Jesse Gooch were issued signed proclamations to commemorate their dedication to the area.

Lewiston Stone House owner Emery Simon intends to build a patio in front of his bar and restaurant at 755 Center St. Plans call for seating of about 20 guests inside of a gated rectangle atop the existing sidewalk. New pop-up vaccination sites at airports to reach more individuals with COVID-19 vaccine
