FeedMore WNY received a $50,000 grant from the Morgan Stanley Foundation to provide Western New York families in need the ability to choose from available foods or food boxes at partner food pantries. The funds provided an opportunity for 12 area food pantries in Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie and Niagara counties to reintroduce elements of choice at distributions, while still maintaining safety protocols due to the coronavirus pandemic.

On Wednesday, New York's Army National Guard used a CH-47F Chinook heavy lift helicopter to remove a pontoon from a portion of the New York Power Authority's "ice boom" at Niagara Falls. The New York State Park Police teamed with U.S. Army aviators from the New York Army National Guard's Detachment 1, Company "B" 3rd Battalion on the operation, which began Tuesday morning with scoping.

Niagara University announced that Jeff and Mary Helen Holzschuh have pledged a gift of $10 million to the university. In recognition of the gift, the university will rename the college of business to the Holzschuh College of Business Administration. Kathy Hochul has signed legislation S.5924-C/A.6938-B that prohibits colleges from withholding a student's transcript because of unpaid debts or charging individuals who owe debts a higher fee to obtain their transcript. This legislation ensures students can access their transcript when necessary, so that they may continue their education or find a job.

On Tuesday, Villa Maria College broke ground on a significant capital improvement project to renovate its 61-year-old dining hall. Made possible by a major donation from local restauranteur, civic leader and philanthropist Russell J. Salvatore, the $1 million renovation project is scheduled to be completed ahead of the fall 2022 semester. The new space will be called The Russell J. Salvatore Commons.

Niagara County Legislator Rich Andres, chairman of the county's Economic Development Committee, on Tuesday said the proposed site for the new warehouse project (of which Amazon is the potential tenant) was deemed shovel-ready by Empire State Development a decade ago and, as such, the project absolutely needs to be approved if the county wants to maintain credibility with national and international site selectors.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Tuesday announced she is appointing U.S. Rep. Antonio Delgado to serve as lieutenant governor of New York. Delgado currently represents New York's 19th Congressional District, which includes the Hudson Valley and Catskills. Delgado is Afro-Latino, the first person of color to represent upstate New York in Congress, and a member of both the Black and Hispanic caucuses.

A University at Buffalo study has found that, over the past two decades, more Black men have been dying from obstructive sleep apnea than have white people or Black females. Their death from sleep apnea has continued to rise, in contrast to rates that have flattened for white people and Black females.
