First launched in May of 2016 as a two-year pilot project led by the Niagara Falls National Heritage Area, the Discover Niagara Shuttle will soon be a permanent fixture along the 14-mile "Falls to Fort" route during the busy tourism season.

The family of the late Robert O. Steinjan Sr. recently presented a check for $7,750 to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center in support of the medical center's cardiac and stroke care unit. The gift represents proceeds from the fourth annual Robert O. Steinjan Sr. Memorial Car Show, held this summer at Hoover's Dairy Store in Sanborn.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo signed legislation (S.3756/A.55) waiving the state fee for marriage licenses for active duty members of the U.S. armed forces or their spouses. The bill also gives local governments freedom to waive the fees they charge for marriage certificates for active duty service members or spouses.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced $6.4 million in grants from the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation, in addition to $4 million in state funding, which will support ongoing improvements to the Genesee Valley Greenway State Park and the Niagara Shoreline Trail in Western New York. The projects will help make key connections to the Empire State Trail. The not-for-profit Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation was created after the 2014 death of Wilson, the former owner of the Buffalo Bills and a co-founder of the American Football League.

New York State Sen. Chris Jacobs, R-60th, criticized what he called "Gov. Cuomo's blatant money grab on already over-taxed New Yorkers," in response to the governor's recent announcement that millions of New York drivers will be required to purchase new license plates beginning next year, regardless of the condition of their existing plates. The cost will be $25 and an additional $20 to keep an old plate number.

James Bond Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli today released the official title of the 25th James Bond adventure, "No Time To Die." The film, from Albert R. Broccoli's EON Productions, Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studios (MGM), and Universal Pictures International, is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga ("Beasts of No Nation," "True Detective"). It stars Daniel Craig, who returns for his fifth film as Ian Fleming's James Bond 007.

The Niagara Falls National Heritage Area, with financial support from the New York State Health Foundation, is embarking on a multiphase heritage arts mural project and walking trail that will merge public art, local history and public health. Through August and September of this year, 10 artists from Niagara Falls and Buffalo will paint 10 new murals on Main Street and Depot Avenue in the north end neighborhood. The project unites artists with the Highland Community in a collaborative process to transform public spaces and inspire local citizens.

The New York State Thruway Authority announced the northbound South Grand Island Bridge will be closed to all traffic from midnight until 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. All traffic traveling northbound on the Niagara Thruway (I-190) entering Grand Island will be diverted to a single lane on the southbound South Grand Island Bridge during the scheduled closure.

The NFL Films documentary "A Lifetime of Sundays," which profiles the matriarchs of four American football families, will make its television debut on ESPN, Sunday, Aug. 25 (1-2:30 p.m. EDT), and a week later on ABC, Sunday, Sept. 1 (3:30-5 p.m.). The film also will be available through ESPN authenticated video on demand until Sept. 15, when it moves to ESPN+ and will be available for streaming.

The all-time attendance record for the Erie County Fair was shattered as the "Best 12 Days of Summer" in Western New York concluded Sunday night. Final 2019 attendance is 1,238,456. This number represents a 3.3% increase from 2018 and makes 2019's number the highest attended County Fair in the history of the Erie County Agricultural Society. The previous all-time record was achieved in 2014 (1,220,101).
