Gov. Kathy Hochul on Thursday announced the suspension of the state hiring freeze through the end of the fiscal year, supporting COVID-19 recovery efforts. The hiring freeze suspension comes after the governor released the updated state financial plan, projecting $2.1 billion in revenue above projections as the economic recovery beats expectations.

The Erie County Fair continues its partnership with the Can Bottle Return Co. of Hamburg to collect and recycle the returnable cans, bottles and glasses used at the annual event. The Great Pumpkin Farm in Clarence will kick off its 26th annual Fall Festival from 10 a.m. to dusk Saturday and Sunday with a special Armed Forces Weekend in collaboration with Clarence Citizens for Veterans. Gov. Kathy Hochul announced "significant progress" in providing pandemic relief to impacted New Yorkers through the Emergency Rental Assistance Program and the Excluded Workers Program. The amount of pandemic-related emergency rental assistance paid out has nearly doubled in the past three weeks - growing to $399 million - enabling tenants at risk for eviction to stay in their homes and helping struggling landlords to recoup unpaid rent.

The project aims to finish its capital fundraising and to begin preparatory site work in fall 2021.
