FTC approves final order requiring Price Chopper and Tops Market Corp. to sell 12 stores as a condition of merger

Following a public comment period, the Federal Trade Commission has approved a final order settling charges that the merger of New York-based supermarket operators The Golub Corp., which owns the Price Chopper chain, and Tops Market Corp. would likely be anticompetitive in 11 local markets across upstate New York and Vermont.

Ross, U.S. attorney for the Western District of New York, will deliver a talk at Buffalo State College as the 2022 MLK speaker at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, in the Burchfield Penney Art Center's Tower Auditorium in honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Black History Month. The event, which is also part of the college's 150th anniversary celebration and sponsored by the Office of Equity and Campus Diversity, is free and open to the public.
Empire State Winter Games Torch Relay will start in Buffalo and NYC

The 42nd Empire State Winter Games (ESWG) Torch Relay kicks off Jan. 29 from two starting points, Buffalo and New York City, as the start of its six-day, 700-mile journey that will culminate in Lake Placid for the opening ceremony of the Feb. 3-6 Games. Opening appearances include New York City's famed Times Square and Buffalo's Lighthouse Park. The torch relay will be welcomed by dozens of communities along the two routes that will merge at the event site.

Hochul: More than $3.7 million to support addiction prevention services across state

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday announced the award of more than $3.7 million to expand evidence-based addiction prevention services throughout New York. Funding was awarded to providers in each of the state's 10 economic development regions, and will support prevention providers who had their services negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) is administering this funding.
