New York State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball announced two funding opportunities are available to support New York's county and local fairs. The state's Transportation for Youth to New York State County and Local Fairs Competitive Grants Program will provide a total of $350,000 for transportation and related costs to bring participating youth groups, who may otherwise not be able to, to their county and local fairs during the 2025 fair season.

Western District of New York United States Attorney Trini E. Ross announced Dewayne Vass, 43, of Buffalo, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra Jr. to possession with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl, which carries a minimum penalty of 10 years in prison, a maximum of life, and a $10,000,000 fine.

Former Deputy Erie County Clerk Alexander McDougall was sentenced Friday to 1 1/3 to 4 years in state prison and ordered to pay full restitution after pleading guilty to stealing over $320,000 in county funds, state Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane and Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia announced.

Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced James L. Allen, 69, of Buffalo, pleaded guilty yesterday afternoon before State Supreme Court Justice Deborah A. Haendiges to one count of manslaughter in the first degree (class "B" violent felony). The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge in full satisfaction of the indictment.

Hank Lisowski, born on June 12, 1938, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Jan. 8, 2025. He died at Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston surrounded by his family. He graciously and mercifully did not suffer.

The Western New York Land Conservancy has permanently protected an additional 38.3 acres on Grand Island. The property will be maintained by the Land Conservancy and be known as the Jim and Edna Braddell Preserve. Funding for the purchase comes from the Greenway Ecological Standing Committee (GESC), which awarded the Land Conservancy a grant to protect the important bird habitat.
