Buffalo man pleads guilty to fentanyl charge

Western District of New York United States Attorney Trini E. Ross announced Dewayne Vass, 43, of Buffalo, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra Jr. to possession with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl, which carries a minimum penalty of 10 years in prison, a maximum of life, and a $10,000,000 fine.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy C. Lynch, who is handling the case, stated that, on July 12, 2024, law enforcement executed a search warrant at a Moselle Avenue residence associated with Vass, as well as at Vass’s Sunshine Drive residence, and on his vehicle. Investigators recovered large quantities of cocaine, fentanyl, approximately $127,000 in cash, a pistol, and drug paraphernalia.

The plea is the result of an investigation by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, under the direction of Sheriff John Garcia, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia.
