NYS: More than $100 million in additional food assistance for September

The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) announced more than $100 million in additional emergency food assistance to help New Yorkers adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic avoid food insecurity.

Join Buffalo Bills Legends, including Jim Kelly, in partnership with Independent Health Foundation, Buffalo Bills Foundation and Channel 4, for the "Huddle for Hunger" food drive to benefit FeedMore WNY. The event will take place from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, and noon to 4 pm. Saturday, Sept. 19, at Bills Stadium in Orchard Park. "Huddle for Hunger" masks will be given to the first 5,000 donors at the stadium. Limit two per car.
ESAAL helps families visit loved ones residing in assisted living communities across New York

After frequent and growing pleas from the Empire State Association of Assisted Living (ESAAL), its member assisted living communities, their residents and family members, on Sept. 9 the New York State Department of Health offered more flexible rules for allowing resumption of resident-family visits, removing a significant obstacle referred to as the 28-day rule. ESAAL is grateful to the department for the change, which allows more assisted living communities to be eligible to resume family visitation with residents.
National gas prices continue to drop, as summer road trip season is over

Monday's national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $2.19, down 3 cents from last week. One year ago, the price was $2.57. The New York state average is $2.28 - down a penny since last week. A year ago, the state average was $2.73.

ECMC earns 'LGBTQ Health Care Equality Top Performer' designation

Erie County Medical Center Corp. announced its "LGBTQ Health Care Equality Top Performer" designation from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC). The designation was awarded in the 13th edition of HRC's Healthcare Equality Index (HEI). A record 765 health care facilities actively participated in the HEI 2020 survey. Of those included in the HEI, 193 earned an "LGBTQ Health Care Equality Top Performer" designation.

Carnegie Art Center launches a 2021 calendar featuring artwork by 12 local artists

The Carnegie Art Center is selling printed 2021 calendars as a fundraiser. The calendars feature a different work of art for each month of the year created by 12 artists living and working in Western New York. Calendars can be pre-ordered on the center's website anytime and will be available for delivery and pick-up in mid-September. Sales from the calendars will support the Carnegie Art Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

The Buffalo Police Explorers raised the funds to purchase the supplies needed to clean and paint the building located at 276 Southampton St. The Buffalo Benevolent Association was one of the largest contributors.
