The Buffalo Police Explorer Post 638 has partnered up with the None Like You/ We Care Outreach Center to raise money for the center’s renovation. The Buffalo Police Explorers raised the funds to purchase the supplies needed to clean and paint the building located at 276 Southampton St. The Buffalo Benevolent Association was one of the largest contributors.

None Like You is a nonprofit organization in Buffalo striving to organize citywide outreach educational programs and promote community involvement. The Buffalo Police Explorers work with many nonprofits throughout Buffalo as part of its training with the Buffalo Police Department.

Buffalo Police Explorers Program Adviser and Buffalo Police Officer Joelle Bence is excited to build on the programs involvement in the community this year.

“As police officers, we are working hard to build relationships within our neighborhoods,” Bence said. “As a diverse group ourselves, we are always looking to learn from those we serve.”

The Buffalo Police Explorers will be creating a mural on the stairs and ramp of None Like You’s outreach center and tidy up the outside area.

A press release said, “Collaborative efforts with important organizations like this is what the Buffalo Police Explorer program is built on, aiming to foster confidence and develop leadership skills in our youth so they can create a path toward their future.”

Buffalo Police Commissioner Byron W. Lockwood serves on the advisory board for Buffalo Police Explorers. He said the program is extremely important to the city, especially during times of unrest.

“The Buffalo Police Department makes a direct impact on the local community by instilling the value of community service on a daily basis,” Lockwood said. “We wake up each day with the mission to protect and serve individuals in the City of Buffalo. Buffalo Police Explorers is just one example of the deep roots we have in the community and the positive impact we make each day.”
