The Friends of the Lewiston Public Library group is now seeking donations of used books, DVDs and videotapes for its annual book sale. Proceeds from the event will go to the Lewiston Public Library.

The annual Father's Day Lawn Mower Race on the Island's West River took place over the weekend to raise money for the Grand Island Relay For Life in its ongoing support of the American Cancer Society.

The monthly meeting of the Niagara Frontier Corvair Club took place at Adrian's. There were eight vintage Corvairs on display among many other muscle and collectable cars all enjoying the monthly cruise night at Adrian's. The great weather and food socializing with other car guys made it a very enjoyable evening.

Erie County Legislator Kevin Hardwick has called on the Environmental Protection Agency and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to conduct soil tests in areas near the Tonawanda Coke plant. Tonawanda Coke was recently found guilty of polluting the air and now focus has turned to what impact the facility's operations has had on the soil.

Twenty-three children from Niagara County are attending the New York State Sheriffs' Association Institute's 2013 Summer Camp. Eleven young people from Niagara County left last Sunday for the camp. A second group of 12 young campers will be heading to camp this Sunday, June 30.

Assemblyman John Ceretto met Wednesday with Gov. Andrew Cuomo to finalize an agreement to end the dispute surrounding the Peace Bridge. As a result, significant economic improvements to the Peace Bridge on the American side will be made and the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority will not be dissolved. The agreement will be ratified on Friday.
