Kathy Hochul on Friday announced landmarks would be lit blue today to commemorate International Human Rights Day - which is observed every year on Dec. 10 to commemorate the 1948 adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This milestone document proclaims the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being regardless of race, color, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn, along with Buffalo Police Deputy Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia and New York City Police Commissioner Dermot Shea, joined members of the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police Inc., prosecutors, advocacy groups, and the family members of victims of violent crime to urge New York state legislators to modify recently enacted criminal justice reform laws. The announcement was held Thursday afternoon outside of the New York State Capitol building in Albany.

The Erie County Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry, along with the Town of Orchard Park Recreation Department and other partners, announced the cancellation of "Santa Land" events due to a wide-impact wind and weather event that is expected to impact Erie County and Western New York Saturday into Sunday. The storm is expected to bring damaging and intensifying wind gusts and rain to the area throughout the day, with the potential for wind damage, downed trees and power outages.

Carolynn Welch, executive director of the Westminster Economic Development Initiative (WEDI), announced an additional $1 million in new gifts have been pledged to "Building Community, Building Opportunity, Building the New West Side Bazaar," its $7.5 million capital campaign.
