From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, Create a Healthier Niagara Falls Collaborative is putting on its annual event, "Walk the Falls," starting at the Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Center, 825 Depot Ave. West. This year, it is partnering with Niagara Falls National Heritage Area and the Aquarium of Niagara to make the walk as interactive and eventful as possible.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced the 22nd annual Fall Festival at Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve in Cheektowaga. The event is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17. Visitors can spend the day enjoying nature activities, exhibits, live animals and music. The festival is free and open to the public.

NFPD investigating shooting

Shortly after 1 a.m. this morning, the Niagara Falls Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the 400 block of Ninth Street. Upon arrival, the officers found a 30-year-old male with a gunshot wound. Police immediately began to render aid to the victim before he was transported to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Once there, he was pronounced deceased.
Beat the heat at City of Buffalo's splash pads & indoor pools

Now that repairs have been completed on the Allison Park Splash Pad, located at 38 Rees St., all 11 city splash pads are available for cooling off and relaxing. The splash pads are open every day, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., through Labor Day, weather permitting.
DEC begins emergency clean-up response to coal tar discharges to Scajaquada Creek Harbor from pumphouse

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced today that DEC's spill response unit is beginning work to contain and eliminate coal tar and other hazardous substances from entering the lower section of Scajaquada Creek from a pumphouse at Niagara Street near Scajaquada Creek's outlet to the Black Rock Canal in Buffalo.

Completion of Rosina Food Products' new $73 million food manufacturing plant in West Seneca

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Thursday announced Rosina Food Products Inc. has completed a $73.2 million expansion, adding a facility in West Seneca. The new, multimillion-dollar plant will produce a variety of meat products for the fast-growing food manufacturer, and will create 40 new jobs and retain 500 jobs.
Sections of Genesee and E. Huron streets in downtown Buffalo remain closed as emergency sewer repairs continue

The Buffalo Sewer Authority is continuing to repair a sewer line that collapsed earlier this week beneath Genesee Street in downtown Buffalo. Due to that work, Genesee Street remains closed between Washington and East Huron streets, and East Huron Street is closed between Main and Washington streets. Motorists are asked to use West Mohawk Street as a detour around the impacted area.
'Murder at the Mansion' to raise funds for Breast Cancer Network

Today's national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.99, down 7 cents from Monday and 15 cents one week ago. One year ago, the price was $3.19. The New York state average is $4.38, down 5 cents since Monday and 11 cents since last week. A year ago, the NYS average was $3.22.

NYS: Launch of intellectual & developmental disabilities advisory council on domestic violence

Gov. Kathy Hochul recently announced the launch of the intellectual and developmental disabilities advisory council, which is designed to strengthen the capacity of both the domestic violence and the intellectual and developmental disability systems to increase access to domestic violence services for individuals with IDD who are also survivors of domestic violence. Through the advisory council, the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and the New York State Developmental Disabilities Planning Council will work together to develop and implement skills training for intellectual and developmental disability and domestic violence service providers.
