The Breast Cancer Network of WNY (BCN) is presenting a fundraiser to benefit research for metastatic breast cancer. The event on Sept. 30 at The Mansion on Delaware is titled “Murder at the Mansion.” It is an interactive murder mystery cocktail party that includes a professionally presented murder mystery show.

BCN Executive Director Rob Jones, whose wife, Coleen, passed away from metastatic breast cancer in 2013, talked about how important it is for people to understand that disease.

“Many people don’t realize that breast cancer deaths don’t occur until the cancer cells metastasize to different organs,” he said. “Once that happens, breast cancer becomes a terminal disease.”

Jones referenced the importance of research funding.

“There is all kinds of fundraising and money being donated in the name of breast cancer but, unfortunately, not enough of that falls into the hands of the researchers working on metastatic disease,” he said.

All proceeds from the “Murder at the Mansion” event will be donated to metastatic breast cancer research.

“BCN has a strong commitment to women and families living with metastatic breast cancer,” Jones said. “We offer support groups and a variety of support programming. We have also donated over $65,000 to metastatic research over the past five years.”

A press release explained, “Metastatic breast cancer is the stage IV disease that causes over 40,000 deaths in the United States each year. BCN has created a restricted fund that donates specifically to metastatic breast cancer research – and that fund will benefit from this event.”

“Murder at the Mansion” tickets are available online at www.bcnwny.org, or at the Breast Cancer Network offices at 3297 Walden Ave., Depew.

The Breast Cancer Network of WNY, founded in 1988, is dedicated to the education, support and advocacy for breast cancer patients and survivors of WNY. This volunteer-driven organization presents a full schedule of support groups, restorative health classes, education programs, and outreach for survivors and newly diagnosed patients. BCN is a local organization and keeps 100% of all donations it receives in Western New York.
