The Buffalo Sewer Authority is continuing to repair a sewer line that collapsed earlier this week beneath Genesee Street in downtown Buffalo. Due to that work, Genesee Street remains closed between Washington and East Huron streets, and East Huron Street is closed between Main and Washington streets. Motorists are asked to use West Mohawk Street as a detour around the impacted area.

The BSA said replacement of the collapsed section of the sewer line is complicated due to other utility lines that also run under Genesee Street, as well as the depth of the sewer line, and unstable soil conditions.

At this time, there is no estimate as to how long the repair will take.

Mobile pumps are being used to prevent backups in business and residential sewer lines, which are connected to the affected main.
