DEC brownfield cleanup program marks successful year in 2021

DEC announces closure of all target shooting activity at Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation on Thursday announced that, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 1, target shooting will be prohibited at Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area (WMA), located in DEC's regions 8 and 9. The closure will bring the WMA into compliance with recently adopted regulations for WMAs statewide that prohibit target shooting.
Non-US individuals will need to be vaccinated to enter country at borders

Beginning Jan. 22, the Department of Homeland Security will require non-U.S. individuals seeking to enter the U.S. via land ports of entry and ferry terminals at the U.S.-Mexico and U.S.-Canada borders to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, and provide related proof of vaccination. These new restrictions will apply to non-U.S. individuals who are traveling for both essential and nonessential reasons. They will not apply to U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, or U.S. nationals.

On Thursday, New York State Sen. Sean Ryan and Assembly member Kimberly Jean-Pierre announced their plans to fight to restore proposed cuts to library capital funding in the fiscal year 2022-23 state budget. The executive budget proposal released earlier this week would cut library construction aid to $14 million from the $34 million allocated in the FY 2021-22 state budget.
Expanded 'solar-for-all' program approved for National Grid's low-income customers

The New York State Public Service Commission on Thursday approved the first phase of a program where low-income electric customers of National Grid currently enrolled in the company's energy affordability program (EAP) will be automatically enrolled in a new expanded solar-for-all program (E-SFA), which, when fully implemented, will save these customers an estimated $5 a month on their utility bills.

Congressman Brian Higgins announced $10 million in new federal funding provided through the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Law will be invested in Times Beach Nature Preserve on Buffalo's Outer Harbor.
