Local animal lovers stepped up big to donate to the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter as part of the “Betty White Challenge.” Some 500 donations, totaling $10,800, came into the shelter in honor of what would have been much-loved actress’ 100th birthday on Jan. 17.
“Thank you to Buffalo and Western New York residents for being a friend of the Buffalo Animal Shelter,” director Kelly McCartney said. “We had asked for donations of $5, so the outpouring of financial support greatly exceeded our expectations.”
The city’s shelter adopts out between 1,500 and 2,000 animals a year, while also helping homeless pets with medical and behavioral problems, so these animals can find a forever home.
