As part of President Biden's Investing in America agenda, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced New York is the first state in the nation to launch its home energy rebates program, created by the Inflation Reduction Act. New York's program will allow more low-and-middle-income families to take advantage of efficiency and clean energy upgrades that will make their homes more comfortable while saving money on their energy bills.

Outside the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum last Friday, we met a graceful Billye Aaron, the widow of Henry Lewis "Hammerin' Hank" Aaron to present a plaque, titled, "Henry Aaron's Connection with Buffalo, New York." It was one day after a bronze statue of her husband was unveiled, and moments before the ribbon would be cut on the museum's newest exhibit, "The Souls of the Game: The Voices of Black Baseball."

Wegmans is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its employee scholarship program. Since it began in 1984, more than 46,500 Wegmans employees have been awarded scholarships totaling $145 million. This year, approximately 1,500 new recipients were awarded scholarships. The company expects to pay out more than $6.5 million in tuition assistance to both new and returning scholarship recipients during the 2024-25 school year.

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced 22-year-old Jamin Haygood, also known as "Scrap," of Buffalo, was sentenced this morning before State Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller to 12 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision. He was sentenced today as a second violent felony offender.

A ceremony was held Wednesday reopening the main Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station gate on Lockport Road following an 18-month reconstruction period. The graduating Class of 2024 marks a first in the program's history, with all 15 students earning a passing grade on the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) certified surgical technologist (CST) exam, giving the cohort a 100% pass rate.

The Niagara Wine Trail members announce the return of a wine and cheese event - now expanding to be a charcuterie event. Participating wineries will feature a different cheese paired with a special wine. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday June 1, and from noon until 5 p.m. Sunday, June 2. Tickets are $40 per person per day and include the cheese sample and three tastes of wine at each participating winery.
