John Katko, former U.S. congressman, and Dr. Dianne Morrison-Beedy, chief talent and global strategy officer and Centennial Professor of Nursing at The Ohio State University, have been named to Niagara University's board of trustees. The appointments were announced by the Rev. James J. Maher, C.M., president of the university.

Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski on Tuesday reminded drivers who renewed their license between March 1, 2020, and Aug. 31, 2021, by self-certifying their vision but have failed to submit the results of a vision test to the Department of Motor Vehicles that they face suspension of their license. Drivers who fall into this category should have received a letter from the state DMV.

The 2023 grand prizewinner from Higgin's district is Kenmore East High School student Ava Valkwitch for her oil painting titled "Reinstein Woods."

The 11th season of the "Silo City Reading Series," a multigenre celebration of poetry, music and art held in Marine A - a 130-foot-high abandoned grain silo at the edge of the Buffalo River - kicks off June 10 with an event headlined by National Book Award Finalist poet Solmaz Sharif, author of "Customs" (Graywolf Press, 2022) and Tyrone Williams, University at Buffalo professor and David Gray Chair of Poetry & Letters. Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University has a new student-curated exhibition, "Shaping Nature," by Buffalo-based Japanese potter Junko McGee that explores the relationship between nature and artistry, on view through Oct. 29. "Shaping Nature" is McGee's first solo exhibition, curated by Niagara University's exhibiting cultures class, led by senior lecturer and CAM Curator of Folk Arts Edward Y. Millar.

"Lipsey Summer Jazz at the AKG" is presented by The Stanford and Judith Lipsey Foundation. Concerts take place on the museum's Delaware stairs overlooking Hoyt Lake. Admission is free. On May 8, at approximately 7:05 p.m., the Niagara County Sheriff's Office dispatch center received multiple 911 calls reporting a possible residential structure fire at 23 Joshua Drive in the Town of Wilson. It was advised that heavy smoke was coming from a manufactured home in the Rainbow Mobile Home Park.

Four members of the Ridgewood Bible Church on Ridge Road assisted Lockport CARES Homeless Shelter by volunteering to help keep the shelter tidy and clean. Members spent many hours helping with spring cleaning of the interior of the home at 188 Genesee St., and aiding with lawn maintenance and mowing.
