The U.S. Small Business Administration will host a virtual "Military Spouse Entrepreneur Summit" in collaboration with second lady of the United States Karen Pence and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation's Hiring Our Heroes. The free event is set for 1-3:30 p.m. ET Wednesday, Aug. 19. It is designed to connect military spouses with resources and information available to help them start or grow a small business.

Leaders from Erie and Niagara counties on Thursday cut the ribbon to reopen a section Tonawanda Creek Road in the Town of Clarence that has been closed since 2014. The project is part of the bicounty Tonawanda Creek slope stabilization and roadway reconstruction effort that also includes projects in the towns of Lockport and Pendleton.

The Lewiston Lions understands local food pantries are under tremendous pressure, with increased demand and decreased donations. The club was able to make donations to several food pantry locations during quarantine: Care-N-Share (Inter Community Services), Word of Life Ministries and the Magdalene Project. In addition to a monetary donation, 40 face masks were also donated to the Word of Life Ministries for distribution to those who may need one.

The project consists of a new building near the corner of Prime and Perry streets to house the near-century-old De Angelis Carousel. The carousel is planned to open in the summer of 2021.

At 2:36 a.m. Monday, Niagara County Sheriff's Office Deputy Darryl Kroening was patrolling Niagara Falls Boulevard when he noticed a new Chevrolet Silverado at David Chevrolet, 10225 Niagara Falls Blvd., with stone blocks underneath an axle. Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced more than $2.3 million has been awarded to support 61 businesses and residential landlords with COVID-19-related costs and expenses through the "New York Forward" loan fund. Of the 61 loans, 54 were provided to minority- and women-owned businesses; 10 loans were provided to residential landlords; two loans were awarded to veteran-owned businesses; and one loan supported a nonprofit organization.
