The third annual "Billiards for Books" benefit for the Youngstown Public Library will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, at Brennan's Irish Pub, 418 Main St., in Youngstown. The pool tournament-fundraiser starts at 4 p.m.

Erie County will "Go Violet" on Wednesday, Oct. 16, marking October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Erie County Coalition Against Family Violence is asking individuals and organizations to wear purple, the symbolic color for domestic violence awareness, and provide information to employees and patrons. Tops Friendly Markets, a leading full-service grocery retailer in upstate New York, northern Pennsylvania and western Vermont, has announced the company's produce director, Steven Wright has won 2013 Retailer of the Year from Produce Retailer magazine. Town of Niagara Supervisor Steve Richards has vowed to clear his name in the 28-count indictment brought against him in State Supreme Court in Lockport last Friday.
A plea of not guilty was entered before Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr. Since then, neither Richards nor his lawyer, Rodney Personius, nor town councilmen known to have been subpoenaed to testify during the preceding grand jury investigation have been willing to comment.

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-C-I-Lewiston, was recently named to the New York Farm Bureau's "Circle of Friends." This award is given to legislators who demonstrate a commitment to strengthening family farms through advocacy and a strong voting record on issues that impact family farms. Ceretto has won this award every year he has been in the Assembly, making this his third consecutive year as a Friend of Family Farms.
