The Greater Hudson Heritage Network (GHHN) is awarding a $4,500 conservation treatment grant to the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University to conserve a Joachim Ferdinand Richardt painting of the Niagara River from the museum's permanent collection. The artwork has never been publicly displayed, because of its poor condition when first acquired.

Congressman Brian Higgins announced the passage of H.R. 1667, the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act. The bill, cosponsored by Higgins, works to promote mental health support for health care professionals by providing $45 million annually from 2022 through 2024 for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to establish and improve mental health education and awareness initiatives.

Gov. Kathy Hochul recently signed a package of legislation to protect consumers from exploitative credit and gift card practices in New York. Legislation S.133-B/A.5698-B protects credit card holders by creating a grace period for the use of reward points after the closing of an account. Legislation S.3467-B/A.4629-C prohibits fees and expiration dates on gift cards and gift certificates.

A National Grid field force of more than 3,300 workers is active across upstate New York removing downed wires, trees, tree limbs, broken poles and other hazards, while focusing on public safety and service restoration after a sustained, powerful windstorm hovered over the region Saturday through early Sunday morning. The storm, which included heavy rain and wind gusts of more than 80 mph in some areas, has caused widespread and significant damage across the company's 25,000-square-mile service area.

The Niagara County Sheriff's Office issued a Travel Advisory on Saturday evening, as high winds stormed local communities. NCSO said, "All motorists traveling the roadways in Niagara County this evening are urged to use extreme caution when driving. There are numerous signal lights out, along with trees and power wires down in roadways across Niagara County. Drivers are advised to treat a signal light that is out as a four-way stop."

On Monday evening, the Grand Island Town Board passed by a 4-0 vote a resolution expressing opposition to Erie County's mask mandate, which went into effect Nov. 23. In the resolution, the councilmembers went on record as opposing any future mask mandates, vaccination mandates, or any other COVID-19 restrictions. It requested the town and the state refrain from enforcing the mask mandate on Grand Island.
