The Astraverse has a new home. Hulu announced it will be the exclusive U.S. streaming destination for the biggest Hindi film of the year, "Brahmāstra Part One: Shiva." The visual spectacle, the first in a planned trilogy, will be available Friday, Nov. 4, in both its theatrical Hindi and an English dubbed version for the very first time.

The National Jazz Festival will present its annual festival at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia on April 22, 2023. Registration is now open, with a sign-up deadline of Nov. 30. Various categories are open for high school and middle school participation, including jazz bands, vocal groups, individual vocalists, composers and middle school bands.

Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper, in partnership with the Town of Niagara, has completed a decade-long project to protect and restore a critical forested wetland site along Cayuga Creek in the Town of Niagara. The protection of an additional 12 acres in partnership with the Buffalo Niagara River Land Trust in September caps off restoration work on the creek and surrounding ecosystem.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday announced all New Yorkers enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will receive the maximum allowable level of food benefits for October. All households participating in SNAP - including those already at the maximum level of benefits - will receive a supplemental allotment this month, resulting in a roughly $234 million infusion of federal funding into the New York State economy.

Gov. Kathy Hochul and Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown on Friday announced the establishment of the May 14th Memorial Commission in response to the mass shooting at a Tops Friendly Market on Jefferson Avenue earlier this year. The commission will develop and advise on a plan to site and build a physical memorial in east Buffalo to memorialize the life and legacy of the residents lost that day.

At an Oct. 19 workshop meeting, the Grand Island Town Board voted to set a public hearing for the 2023 town budget for 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7. In addition, the next steps to enacting a local law to breach the tax cap will occur at the same Town Board meeting.

As the 2022 holiday season approaches, it appears the Town of Lewiston Family Ice Rink is being put on the shelf for this year. The Town Board announced last week that, due to a number of concerns - most notably the condition of the ice rink cooling systems and related equipment, plus uncertainties with the rink's Academy Park site - it has decided to suspend the annual holiday feature for this year.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Thursday announced the winners of the eighth annual 43North Finals, New York state's $5 million startup competition held in Buffalo, in which five companies were each awarded a $1 million investment. In addition to the financial investments, the five winners will relocate their companies to Buffalo and work out of the 43North incubator in the city's tallest skyscraper, Seneca One.
