Near the northernmost point of the Appalachian Trail, in Maine, hikers walk through a wilderness that stretches unbroken for 100 miles. It is called the One Hundred Mile Wilderness. Jeff Bullock, 32, a Grand Island High School graduate, who hiked the entire 2,190 miles of the Appalachian Trail in six months, described the wilderness as "peaceful."

Arts Services Initiative of Western New York has announced the recipients of the 2017 Give for Greatness grants. New York State Sen. Chris Jacobs, a member of the State Senate Task Force on Lyme and Tick-Borne Diseases (TBDs), is co-sponsoring legislation that would require the New York state commissioner of health to develop a standard protocol for the diagnosis of these debilitating diseases. The bill (S.6926) would also require providers to provide patients with a notification form to better educate them about their test results.

The board of directors of Eastern Niagara Hospital (ENH) has approved a plan to construct a state-of-the-art building on the Hospital's Lockport campus that will house a new emergency department and medical office building.
