On Thursday afternoon, the Niagara County Courthouse located at 175 Hawley St., Lockport, and the Niagara Falls City Court, located at 1925 Main St., were closed due to a bomb threat.
Later in the day, Sheriff James R. Voutour announced the Niagara County Sheriff's Office responded to a call of a bomb threat at the Niagara County Economic Development Center located at 6311 Inducon Corporate Drive in the Town of Wheatfield.
Numerous patrol units from the NCSO and New York State Police responded to the scene to secure the area. An explosive detection canine unit from the New York State Park Police was called to assist in a building search.
No explosive device or elements were detected and the building has now been reopened. Voutour and Chief Deputy Michael Dunn were at the scene, as well as New York State Police Maj. Edward Kennedy and Capt. Eric Laughton.
At the time of this incident, similar bomb threats were being investigated at the Niagara County Courthouse in Lockport and the Niagara Falls City Court. The City of Lockport Police Department and the Niagara Falls Police Department are handling investigations into those separate incidents.
The NCSO is handling the investigation into the bomb threat at the Niagara County Economic Development Agency and will be working in coordination with the additional investigations.
