May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, and AAA Western and Central New York is reminding both drivers and bikers of key safety tips as the weather gets nicer! The hope is to reduce crashes and keep the rest of the spring and summer safe for all roadway users.

Nearly 43 million Americans will start their summers on a high note with a Memorial Day weekend getaway! This long holiday weekend, marking the unofficial start of summer vacation season, will see the second-highest travel volume on record since AAA began tracking holiday travel volumes dating back to 2000 - only trailing the bar set in 2005. Overall, an additional 1.5 million more people will take to the nation's roads, rails and runways compared with last year, a 3.6% increase.

The New York State Public Service Commission announced the cost for electricity supply is expected to remain near historically low levels this summer. In addition, peak power demand forecasts continue to fall thanks in part to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's "Reforming the Energy Vision" strategy. The decline in the amount of electricity consumed during the year helps lower costs for consumers and helps save the environment by reducing air pollution from power plants.

Junior Achievement of Western New York (JA) announced it raised a record-breaking $174,711 from its 35th annual JA Bowl-A-Thon, WNY's largest bowling fundraiser. A total of 1,420 participants representing 64 local companies bowled and raised funds for JA's financial literacy, career and work readiness, and entrepreneurship programs taught by volunteers in WNY schools.
