It isn't surprising that when hospital emergency departments become overcrowded, care becomes more fragmented, but a recent study by University at Buffalo researchers has found that technologies designed to track and eventually improve staffing levels must be judiciously chosen.
'Soldiers through the Ages' explores Old Fort Niagara's long military past

Old Fort Niagara welcomes the public to its "Soldiers through the Ages" military history re-enactment event on Saturday and Sunday, May 26 and 27, over Memorial Day weekend. This annual event features special displays of military vehicles, period camps from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, weapons demonstrations, uniform programs and hands-on activities for families. In commemoration of the centennial of the Battle of Cantigny in World War I, a special program will also be presented in the Fort Niagara Officers' Club.

Larry Martin, a second-grade teacher at Belinder Elementary School in Prairie Village, Kansas, won the "Jeopardy!" Teachers Tournament in an episode that aired Friday. He claimed the $100,000 grand prize and secured an automatic berth in the next edition of the "Jeopardy!" Tournament of Champions. Claire Bishop, a Latin teacher at Tates Creek High School in Lexington, Kentucky, placed second and took home $50,000. Steve Mond, a math teacher at Real Salt Lake Academy in Herriman, Utah, finished in third place and earned $25,000.

Summer price forecast shows electric supply costs staying near historically low levels

The New York State Public Service Commission announced the cost for electricity is expected to remain near historically low levels this summer. In addition, peak power demand forecasts continue to fall thanks in large part to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's Reforming the Energy Vision (REV) strategy. The decline in the amount of electricity consumed during the year helps lower costs for consumers and helps save the environment by reducing air pollution from power plants.
WNY school districts awarded hundreds of Connect Kids to Parks grants

In advance of Kids to Parks Day, celebrated nationwide on May 19, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announced more than 500 Connect Kids to Parks Field Trip Grants have been awarded to schools from Western New York, sending 32,000 school students on visits to public lands throughout the western regions of New York state, including Niagara, Erie, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua counties since September 2017.
