The seven area YMCA Buffalo Niagara Branches will collect old worn and tattered flags ready for retirement until June 8. Flags will be taken to Forest Lawn Cemetery on June 10 for proper retirement. Flags can be donated to any YMCA Buffalo Niagara branch.

Wallenda scoffs at suggestion walk across Horseshoe Falls was ever in danger of not happening

Daredevil Nik Wallenda says fees to the New York State parks department and to Ontario's Niagara Parks Commission will be paid by the end of the week as required by his contracts with the two agencies.

Wallenda, speaking Tuesday to Bullet News Niagara, scoffed at the suggestion that permits are not in place and that his walk June 15 over the Horseshoe Falls is in danger of not happening.

"I don't know where this stuff comes from," he said. "There are so many totally wrong stories out there right now. It's unbelievable."

Old Falls Street hosts 'Side Show' to complement Wallenda walk; Hard Rock has VIP tent

Old Falls Street, USA, will be the center of "Side Show" activities on June 15. From 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., day-long festivities will spotlight Nik Wallenda's historic tightrope walk over Niagara Falls, which will be shown on two outdoor jumbo screens. The "Side Show" features tightrope walks and aerial moves from Charm City Movement Arts (from Baltimore) and other circus-themed performances from members of Deep Roots Niagara throughout the day, a petting zoo, as well as live music, festive food and beverage concessions, and more than 20 local merchandise and food vendors.
