Leaders from Niagara County and communities all along Lake Ontario's southern shore will turn out in force tonight in Olcott to protest an International Joint Commission/Corps of Engineers-backed plan that would increase erosion of the shoreline and have a $30 million negative impact on Niagara and Orleans counties at an event hosted by the IJC.
The proposal, dubbed "BV7" by international planners, would both increase high-water levels and lower low-water levels, devastating both the shoreline and harbors used for lucrative local sportfishing and sailing industries. Representatives of the IJC will present the plan tonight at the Olcott Fire Co., 1691 Lockport-Olcott Road, Olcott.
The following listing of local leaders attending the IJC event is complete as of press time; however, additional individuals may confirm their attendance at tonight's event throughout the day.
