The Erie County Department of Environment and Planning, in conjunction with the Erie County Arts and Cultural Advisory Board, will kick off the 2019 arts and cultural funding program with an application release on Friday, Feb. 23. Applications are being released earlier in the year and will be due earlier than in the past.

With six stages featuring more than 110 musical performances, the Erie County Fair ranks as one of Western New York's largest live performance festivals. At the turn of the 20th century, motorboat clubs were a new thing. In Western New York, a motorboat club was established on what is now called Unity Island in 1903. When New York state appropriated the land to build the Black Rock lock, the club had to be moved.

The Vikings defeated the Falcons 51-30 Wednesday night for their second win in a row.

On Sunday, he announced his candidacy to a standing-room-only crowd of over 200 at the Brickyard Brewing Company in Lewiston. Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced Wednesday that 23-year-old Sammy Abdellatif of Grand Island has been sentenced by Erie County Court Judge Kenneth F. Case to eight years in prison and four years post-release supervision for an attack on an Erie County sheriff's deputy.

On Tuesday, Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz announced the selection of 13 municipal projects for inclusion in the Erie County Consortium 2018 Community Development Block Grant application. The submission, which will be sent to the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development for approval, recommends a total Erie County expenditure of $1,424,434 for the projects, an investment which will leverage $3,331,053 in local funds and in-kind resources.

The Grand Island Central School District has introduced a new, responsive website design that launched Dec. 29. With the update, the website layout adjusts itself depending on the device being used. On smaller screens such as tablets or phones, a menu button appears above the logo that is used for navigation.
