The Grand Island Central School District has introduced a new, responsive website design that launched Dec. 29. With the update, the website layout adjusts itself depending on the device being used. On smaller screens such as tablets or phones, a menu button appears above the logo that is used for navigation.
Other enhancements with the design include an embedded social media feed to follow the district's latest updates on Twitter and easy icon buttons for frequently visited areas such as Infinite Campus and cafeteria menus. The five global icons appear at the bottom of all inside pages.
Navigating the site is a little different from the former website. Each building has its own site and home page where news specific to the building will be featured. The main channels are located horizontally across each home page. To toggle between school buildings, use the "Select a School" button and pick the building from the dropdown.
The district stated, "We were notified in the fall that our current website vendor, SchoolWorld, had been purchased by Blackboard and that our website presence would be shifted to their platform. Users who currently had webpages bookmarked on the old site will need to update these bookmarks.
