Five student members of the Niagara University Marketing Association won first place in a case competition held in conjunction with the St. John Fisher College American Marketing Association Regional Conference on Nov. 3. The team developed a marketing plan for Karma Wellness Water, which sponsored the event.
TOMS announces campaign to end gun violence, with $5 million investment

On Monday, TOMS announced "End Gun Violence Together," a campaign aimed at helping end the epidemic in America and kickstarting an evolution to the brand's giving model. To launch the campaign, TOMS will invest $5 million into organizations across the country that are committed to addressing the complex nature of gun violence through various tactics, including programming in communities of color, mental health, research and policy, and suicide prevention.
Bobby Bones & Sharna Burgess are 'Dancing with the Stars' season 27 champions

After weeks of competitive dancing, the final four couples advanced to the season finale of "Dancing with the Stars," which aired live, Monday on The ABC Television Network, streaming and on demand. When all the scores were tabulated, it was music personality/host and reality TV mentor Bobby Bones and his partner, Sharna Burgess, holding the Mirrorball Trophy.
ECHDC holds open house for Outer Harbor plans

Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. held its second open house for the Outer Harbor Access and Activation Project. ECHDC presented three options for First Buffalo River Marina, Wilkeson Pointe to the bell slip, and terminal B. Attendees had an opportunity to comment on the options, provide feedback, and respond to a survey. The projects, funded by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's Buffalo Billion II, will enhance access and facilitate greater public use and enjoyment of Buffalo's Outer Harbor.
ECHDC: The Ice at Canalside to open for season

Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. (ECHDC) will open The Ice at Canalside presented by BlueCross Blue Shield of Western New York, the official health plan of Canalside, at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23. This year, ice bumper cars have been added to the ice activities, along with skating, curling and ice bikes.

The Niagara-Wheatfield Lady Falcons have had success all season. From unbeaten in the regular season to Niagara Frontier League champions to Section VI champions - nothing could go wrong for the team. On Sunday, at the Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls, the girls looked to add to their season resume: New York state champions. With all good things, though, they come to an end. The Lady Falcons' historic season struck midnight Sunday, as the team was defeated 3-2 by Wantagh.

Motorists and pedestrians will notice a new kind of traffic signal on Main Street in Williamsville beginning today. The HAWK (high-intensity activated crosswalk) signal is in front of the Williamsville Library, allowing pedestrians to cross safely mid-block.

The Village of Lewiston's plan to move Kiwanis' annual Peach Festival to the plateau raises a lot more questions than answers at this time. Kiwanis has been presenting their annual festival for almost 60 years and knows better than anyone the logistics and huge amount of time and coordination that goes into the planning. Their thoughts should be respected and given priority before weighing any decisions. Kiwanis has a long history of giving back to the village and being an integral part of our community.

Memorial: Portion of 10th Street to be closed Tuesday

Niagara-Wheatfield HS hosts send off for girls volleyball team

The fall athletics season has been one to remember for the Niagara-Wheatfield girls volleyball team. The team won its first Section VI title and followed it with a win in the Far West Regional to clinch the first state tournament appearance in program history. On Friday morning, the team was scheduled to hit the road for states in Glens Falls. Prior to them loading up the bus and taking off, though, the team was given an outstanding send off from their fellow classmates.
Work to begin on Niagara Scenic Parkway

The New York State Department of Transportation on Thursday announced work is scheduled to begin this week on the project to remove a portion of the Niagara Scenic Parkway in the City of Niagara Falls. As a result, road closures are scheduled to begin this week.
