SBA extends deadline for 2019 National Small Business Week Awards nominations

Due to the federal government shutdown, the U.S. Small Business Administration has extended the deadline for the 2019 National Small Business Week Awards nominations. Now, all nominations must be submitted no later than 3 p.m. EST Monday, Feb. 4.
Grand Island: Pinto Sanitation services cancelled today

Pinto Sanitation issued the following statement on Wednesday, via the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce: "Due to the weather, Wednesday's garbage collection services on Grand Island are cancelled and will be picked up next week Wednesday instead, or on your normal collection day next week."
Niagara County safety services still in place during winter storm

The Niagara County Manager's Office issued a press release stating that, while a travel advisory is in place in Niagara County on Wednesday, "This closure does not affect public safety essential personnel and functions such as Emergency Management Services, Niagara County Sheriff's Office, Sewer District, Water District, DPW and those employees directed to report to work during the closure."

The Niagara County Sheriff's Office and the Niagara County Office of Emergency Management issued a travel advisory Tuesday for all of Niagara County, and continuing until further notice. The National Weather Service is forecasting frigid temperatures and high winds causing reduced visibility.

The New York State Legislature on Tuesday passed legislation designed to prevent and reduce gun violence in New York. The legislative package includes bills to keep guns out of the hands of those who have demonstrated they pose a risk, banning bump stocks, and creating a buyback program for illegal guns.

Poloncarz issues travel advisory for Buffalo, northern Erie County

Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz has issued a travel advisory, in effect until further notice, for the City of Buffalo and all of northern Erie County due to a winter storm that could leave snow accumulations of up to 2 feet in some areas by Thursday morning. The entire region will see lake-effect snow, blowing and drifting snow, and extreme cold temperatures and wind chills over the next 36 hours and into Thursday. The travel advisory urges against any unnecessary travel during this period, and using extreme caution if travel is unavoidable.
Cuomo urges caution as snow and frigid temperatures approach New York

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday urged New Yorkers to prepare for snow and cold temperatures that are headed toward the state. Several weather systems are forecast to move through New York through Wednesday, producing up to a foot of snow in many parts of upstate. In addition, an Arctic blast of cold air will move into the state on Wednesday, bringing frigid temperatures and life-threatening wind chills.
Cuomo earmarks $500,000 for Niagara County SPCA

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday announced nearly $4.5 million was awarded to 13 animal shelters and humane societies across the state through the New York State Companion Animal Capital Fund. DiNapoli: Local sales tax collections jump for 3rd year
