Thomas Chambers named dean of arts and sciences at Canisius College

Canisius College Vice President for Academic Affairs Margaret C. McCarthy, Ph.D, announced Thomas A. Chambers, Ph.D., is the new dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. A professor of history at Niagara University, Chambers also serves as faculty director of strategic enrollment management for graduate studies and director of the liberal arts program at the university. He begins his role at Canisius on June 28.

Around 60,000 are diagnosed each year in the U.S., alone.

Dreams to Memories will hold a basket raffle from 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 29, at Bobby J's Italian American Grille, 204 Como Park Blvd., Cheektowaga. Admission is $10 per person and includes coffee, tea or soda, hors d'oeuvres and one $5 raffle ticket sheet. Those having dinner at Bobby J's can show a receipt to receive an additional raffle ticket sheet.

Morinello joins colleagues in direct-care funding rally

Republican Assemblyman Angelo J. Morinello joined his colleagues and direct-care workers at an Albany rally calling for the inclusion of increased funding for direct-care workers in the 2019-20 New York state budget. The Assembly majority allocated $57.4 million in new funding for the continuation of the direct care-worker salary increase for individuals whose salary is funded through Medicaid. This will be funded Jan. 1 through March 31, 2020.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District announced the record of decision for the Interim Waste Containment Structure Operable Unit of the Niagara Falls Storage Site, located in Lewiston, has been signed by Rickey "R.D." James, assistant secretary for the Army for Civil Works. The selected remedy is alternative four from the proposed plan: excavation, partial treatment, and off-site disposal of the entire contents of the Interim Waste Containment Structure.
