The New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (NYS OASAS) announced the launch of a new addiction awareness campaign designed to provide educators, coaches and families with information and resources designed to curb addiction amongst the youth population in New York. The campaign features a public service announcement starring former professional football player Erik Coleman.

In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Family & Children's Service of Niagara coordinated the fifth annual Domestic Violence Ribbon Walk on Tuesday. Staff, local elected leaders and community members gathered on Third Street to take a collective stand against domestic violence. As they walked, they tied purple ribbons on the trees between Main and Niagara streets.

The New York Power Authority board of trustees approved power contract extensions that combine to support more than 88,000 jobs throughout the state. The contract extensions also further align the Power Authority's economic development programs with Gov. Andrew Cuomo's state energy plan, which calls for 50 percent of New York's electricity is to be generated by renewable energy sources by 2030.
