State Parks announces waterfowl blind drawings

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation has announced lottery drawings for waterfowl hunting season at Beaver Island, West River Shoreline Trail and Strawberry and Motor islands have been scheduled.
Duck season will run from Oct. 27 through Dec. 8, while the goose season will run from Oct. 27 through Nov. 14 and Nov. 24 through Jan. 13, 2019.
The first-half draws will be held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday beginning Oct. 26 at the Beaver Island State Park Clubhouse. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the draws start at 6:30 p.m. sharp. Guests are advised to enter in the back door closest to parking lot next to the clubhouse. The draws will continue to take place through Wednesday, Dec. 5.
Beaver Island will participate in Waterfowl Youth Days Oct. 13-14. The lottery drawing will take place at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, in the basement of the Beaver Island Clubhouse. Visit www.dec.ny.gov for more information about the youth hunt.
Canada Goose season runs from Dec. 9-25. Lottery will be call-ins only from 9 a.m. to noon on Mondays (for hunting Tuesdays and Wednesdays), Wednesdays (for hunting Thursdays and Fridays) and Fridays (for hunting Saturdays through Tuesdays) beginning Friday, Dec. 7. Call 716-773-3271 to register.
To participate in the lottery drawings, hunters must be present and show a valid New York state small game hunting license with a signed duck stamp, proof of completion of a waterfowl ID course and proof of registration in the harvest information program (HIP).
Blinds No. 27 and No. 34 will not be available during the first half, while blinds No. 28 and No. 33 will only be available on weekends due to a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation construction project. State Parks will include three Americans with Disabilities Act blinds, which are handicap-accessible. Blind No. 31 is located within Beaver Island State Park while blind No. 41 blind No. 42 are located on East River Road at Spicer Creek Wildlife Management Area (north of the cemetery).
Waterfowl hunting is restricted to the wooden universal blind structure only.
